Indiana Score-Setting Studies
Middle School Social Studies (5589)
Educational Testing Service, Indiana’s licensure test vendor, has updated Middle School Social Studies test #5089. The current test will be phased out over the next year, replaced by test #5589, Middle School Social Studies. A multistate standard-setting study was conducted for test #5589 in January 2025; 16 panelists represented 10 states, including one panelist from Indiana. The multistate cut score is 71 out of a possible 100 raw-score points. The scale score associated with a raw score of 71 is 149 on a 100-200 scale. Test# 5589 will be used for licensure of social studies teachers at the middle school level, grades 5-9, and will replace the current test as of September 1, 2026. Public comments regarding this test may be submitted until 12:00 noon EST on June 13, 2025. A one-page summary of test changes is provided.
